On the Edge

by Trisha Von Thun

Tension rising all within
quivering, shaking, wondering, then,
running scarred from emotions felt
blistering pain, on my heart a welt

Waiting, watching, mind at play
reaching for that tiny ray
of hope, of life, of destined love
In my reach or too far above?

Coming closer, very near
decision haunted atmosphere
result of this little ploy —
broken heart or total joy?

Just like everyone needs a first love poem attempt in high school, they inevitably need a break up poem.
